Our client is an award-winning manufacturer of industrial consumables, machine manufacturer, and sharpening service provider, with a heritage dating back almost two hundred years. As part of significant growth plans, they have recently acquired a specialist engineering business based in Teesside and are forecasting substantial growth opportunities, with turnover expected to quadruple in the next couple of years. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and commercially driven General Manager to take a leadership role and drive business growth.

Reporting to the group leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the business, setting and delivering a strategic growth plan, and ensuring operational excellence. You will take charge of managing and inspiring a team, strengthening relationships with key customers, and driving revenue growth through a proactive, solution-based sales approach. Establishing a firm foothold in existing markets while identifying and securing new opportunities will be a crucial element of the role, working closely with the marketing team to deliver targeted campaigns.

As the senior employee at the Teesside site, you will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring seamless project delivery while maintaining the company’s reputation for innovative, high-quality engineering solutions. Your ability to manage suppliers effectively, secure competitive pricing and maintain excellent quality standards will be key. A hands-on approach to sales and project management will be essential, building relationships with both SME owner-managers and senior engineering and purchasing professionals within large corporations.

To succeed in this role, you will need a strong track record in leadership, sales, and business development within the engineering, maintenance, or manufacturing sectors. You will have the ability to identify and capitalise on commercial opportunities, translating customer needs into tailored solutions while maintaining operational efficiency. Financial acumen and a deep understanding of managing budgets and commercial performance will be crucial, as will the ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

This role offers significant autonomy and an opportunity to shape the future of a business with immense potential. It will appeal to a driven and commercially minded individual with a passion for engineering and the leadership skills required to drive rapid growth. The successful candidate will enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package, including a car allowance, company pension scheme, and life assurance. While the role is based at the Teesside site, extensive travel to customers and other sites within the group will be required.
